Can You be Retired and Employed?

When we talk about employment, it’s often thought of as a mutually exclusive counterpart to retirement.

But can you be both? Technically, yes.

This piece shows us that about 4 percent of retirees were employed in 2022. About 13 percent were retired but still earning money. Those numbers went up last year.

It goes to show that these classifications of working and employed can differ, while both can overlap with retirement under the right conditions.

But what would be the purpose of claiming your benefits while working? You could be looking to double up your earnings in the short-term, or using your benefits as an investment source.
