What’s the Average Benefit for Middle Class Retirees at 70?

According to Yahoo Finance per the SSA, the average Social Security benefit for middle-aged retirees at age 70 is $2,176.76.

Of course, this amount is relative to both the middle-class income bracket as well as the decision of the beneficiary to wait. Delaying benefits can lead to higher payment amounts. For some, this is a worthwhile strategy. Waiting can pay off financially, especially if the soon-to-be retiree has a stable job they enjoy, and is in good enough health to keep working.

Does this amount make an impact in today’s economy? It’s a start, especially when combined with other resources like pensions and savings. We believe these benefits should be higher, and protected against inflation and budget cuts. Will you help us keep benefits climbing for all retirees, no matter their economic status or claiming age?
