The Social Security Administration (SSA) has been sounding the alarm for years as workers claim they don’t have the right environment to do their jobs in. Specifically, they’re short-staffed and facing high turnover from heavy workloads.
Will 2024 be the year they finally see positive change? The organization’s struggles have been well documented. This problem was around before COVID and lockdowns, but these events exacerbated the issues.
Add in the inflationary problems that have persisted over the past several years, and many people have been seeking the SSA’s help. The result is a backlog of issues, long wait times, frustration on both ends, and ultimately, a call for more funding.
It’s worth noting, a recent budget increase did not fix this problem. Will more money help? Will the selection of a new commissioner bring new insights into fixing these issues? Are there other solutions? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
