The 2026 Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) is now in effect. Seniors will see an extra $600 this year, or about an average increase of $56 per month.
It should be noted that this number may be different from your precise amount. Benefit totals vary based on the earner’s income history, claim date, and other factors.
Some say that the 2.8 percent COLA is too low. While higher than the previous year’s 2.5 percent increase, both have fallen from the 3.2, 8.7, and 5.9 percent increases from 2024, 2023, and 2022, respectively.
This number looks especially small when a person views it alongside today’s rising prices. It’s all a matter of perspective, and we want to hear yours. What do you think of the 2026 COLA?
