The Social Security Administration (SSA) is always looking for ways to improve customer service. But not everyone knows about a recent change they made to security procedures.

Now users who call the SSA will have the option to use a Security Authentication PIN (SAP) as a means to streamline identity verification. Experts say this change could offer many benefits.

Using the PIN could reduce instances of fraud. It could also cut down on time spent on the phone by three minutes. When one considers how long callers wait on hold sometimes, and how many calls come in daily, this could greatly improve the staff’s efficiency.

It should be noted that this feature is available to users with a my Social Security account. In addition, it’s completely voluntary. Will you be trying out the new feature? Do you use it already?
