Social Security overpayment problems continue, and one widow worries she may lose her house over the issue.

After her husband received around $69,000 from the Social Security Administration (SSA), which they said he was entitled to due to having leukemia, the agency is now demanding the money back.

The woman, whose husband passed away in 2012, said they called constantly to see why they were receiving the money. She said it was initially sent when her husband was out of work for six months. But after he returned, the money kept coming, and the SSA assured them it was not an error. Now the agency says otherwise, and this widow is on the hook to pay back the massive amount.

A recent policy change lowered the repayment cap from 100 percent of Social Security benefits to 50 percent. This was after it was changed from only 10 percent back in 2024.
