Social Security Scams are on the Rise

While the news of the 2.8 percent Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) has been landing in seniors’ bank accounts for months now, the elevated interest in Social Security and the desire not to miss out have led to a rise in scams.

Some scammers are telling seniors they’re eligible for even higher increases, or could lose the one they’ve just gotten. They do this in an effort to get your personal information and money.

Many clever crooks are disguising their communications as legitimate messages from the Social Security Administration (SSA). These scams can be highly convincing, as many fraudsters use advanced tactics to gather your information and disguise their own identity.

The SSA will never pressure you for money over the phone or via email. They also have an official source you can visit here to report scams.
